There’s perhaps no more powerful force in nature than light. It influences everything from our cells to our mood and metabolism. Blue wavelengths cue the brain to produce cortisol to make us alert, while red wavelengths allow the production of melatonin to help us sleep—a cycle that once followed the sun and moon. The invention of the lightbulb (and smartphones) changed that. Engineers are now using lightbulbs to change it back.
“The science has led us to understand that the light we’ve been using for the past 100 years has caused damage to us,” says Fred Maxik, founder of bulb-maker Lighting Science Group. When our circadian rhythms went rogue, it increased our risk of developing obesity, depression, and even cancer. That doesn’t have to be the case, Maxik says: “We have the ability to create lights that have purposes other than just illuminating our world.” - Sam Ward, PopSci

About Full Spectrum Solutions, Inc.
Full Spectrum Solutions, Inc. was founded in 1997 by Michael and Diane Nevins and is located in Jackson, Michigan. The Nevins experienced the negative effects of Malillumination, or lack of natural light, firsthand when they moved from Colorado to Michigan during the winter months in 1995.
Michael Nevins, President and CEO of Full Spectrum Solutions, Inc., researched available full spectrum lighting products and found that their quality and durability needed to be substantially improved. He also perceived a serious need for balanced and healthy lighting in work and learning environments of people who spend the majority of their day indoors.
Full Spectrum Solutions, Inc. has quickly grown into the leading manufacturer of energy-efficient, full spectrum lighting solutions for home and office applications. By working directly with world renowned research partners and testing facilities, including the California Lighting Technology Center at UC Davis and the Enhanced Spectrum Lab at the University of Michigan, Full Spectrum Solutions, Inc. offers more than 200 lighting solutions known and marketed today under the names BlueMax™, UltraLux® and EverLast®.
